The Match:Chasetown v FC Halifax Town
The Result:Chasetown 2-1 FC Halifax Town.
My first visit to the sleepy hamlet of Chasetown and i am indebted to ShaymenPlayers' very own midget gem Adam Cheshire for the lift; however the less said about my two other travelling companions messrs Fawkes and Thommo jnr the better and guys you really aren't funny !!
Church Road is situated just off the M6 motorway and although ground parking was limited the club had organised an overflow car park in a nearby sports college.
After watching Blackburn v Arsenal in one of two local hostelries we paid our £8.00 at the turnstiles and an additional £1.50 for a basic but reasonably informative programme.
The stadium itself is quaint to say the least with covered seating down half of one touchline with a decent size bar and changing rooms to the rear of the stand. Opposite to this was a full length uncovered grass viewing area and whilst one goal had a small section of covered terracing behind it the other was again grass banking.
Credit must go to the Chasetown officials who had obviously done their homework employing extra bar staff and bringing in a second " burger - van " to cater for the 300 or so travelling Town faithful in a total attendance of 611. This foresight has to be applauded and hopefully copied by by other clubs we visit this season - unlike last.
The game itself was - an old cliché i know - a game of two halves with our hosts gaining a deserved 2-1 victory for their desire and commitment in the second half having being 1-0 down at half time.
Nett result was a sombre journey home followed by a few ales round " fax " to drown our sorrows and look positively toward our visit to Mickleover Sports where i am sure Town fans will turn out in force and get behind Neil Aspin and the boys.
Total journey distance 216 miles.
Total distance for the season293 miles.
