The Match:Boston United v FC Halifax Town - Unibond League Cup

The Date:Tuesday 9th February 2010.

The Result:Boston 5-2 FC Halifax Town (Dean, OG).

Not the ideal draw (thanks Angie) presenting us with a near 120 mile trip down the A1 and A17 on a Tuesday tea-time but apart from a small section of the A1 being restricted down to 50mph and the usual convoy of Yorkie eating wagon drivers we made good progress and completed the journey in just under 2 ½ hours.

Boston's York Street is one of the proper, old fashioned types of grounds with a deep covered terracing behind one goal, a decent all seated stand down one touchline with covered terracing opposite. Behind the other goal was split between home and away fans with the 40 or so Town fans in a total crowd of 559 who were able to make the trip penned in one corner with a small seated stand above some terracing. I for one found it incredulous that there was segregation at a match such as this and the light hearted banter between both sets of supporters was quite humorous at times.

Having frequented the clubhouse in the main car park - hot roast pork and stuffing sandwiches on offer as well as Sky TV - we paid the reduced rate of £5.00 to enter the stadium in addition to a further £1.50 for a condensed programme which was poor having no league tables and only 4 of our players profiled.

On a freezing cold night the grub on offer was basic but at least it was piping hot and realistically priced and we were able to get a drink at half time having been issued with pass outs by the friendly stewards for a " cig break ".

A much changed Town side form the Wakefield game were not at the races from the off and found themselves 3-0 down before rallying slightly after half time but finally bowing out of this " prestigious " competition by the margin of 5-2.

The journey home was far quicker - 1 ¾ hours to be exact - and was made all the more enjoyable when the news filtered through that both Skem and Colwyn Bay had lost as had Leeds on penalties and the remnants of Zeb's hip flask were used in celebration of these events.

Journey Distance: - 228 miles.

Total Distance For The Season:- 2,547 miles.

Terry"Chadders" Sunderland - looking forward to going back to Boston next season.
