The Result:Wakefield 1-1 FC Halifax Town (Dean).

Our second away game in 5 days saw us make the short journey over to Wakefield reverting back to our usual mode of transport the train.

After a healthy (ish) breakfast we caught the 10.16am train via Leeds to arrive in Wakefield about an hour later for the princely sum of £4.50 return; there was also an hourly direct service which had a similar journey time.

College Grove itself is a steady 15 minute walk from Westgate Station and along the way there are enough bars, shops and eateries to satisfy all requirements coupled with a Cathedral and other tourist type thingies to look round - or use as landmarks after one too many shandies!! We encountered many Shay faithful sampling the delights of the city before making the short walk to the ground where we paid £6.50 admission plus a further £1.50 for a basic but reasonably informative programme.

A small, old fashioned covered stand was down one side of the pitch with limited open terracing along the opposite touchline. The changing rooms and portacabin clubhouse were behind one goal with terracing behind the other goal with an elongated bus shelter providing sparse cover.

Wakefield had brought an additional burger van in to cater for the 550+ Town fans in the total attendance of 659 and whilst I did not sample the grub myself comments I overheard were favourable concerning price and quality.

After the game we retired to the club by the Bowling Green for the usual post match debate before heading back into Wakefield centre to catch the train back to Halifax. One Town fan even found the time for some face surfing along the station platform!!

Journey Distance:48 miles.

Total Distance For The Season:2,319 miles.
