The Match: Mossley vs FC Halifax Town - Unibond Div 1 North.
The Date: Tuesday 2nd February 2010.
The Result: Mossley 3-3 FC Halifax Town (Lowe, Dean and Marshall).
Our trip to Mossashtonley was a traumatic one to say the least!! After hearing the game was off we headed to the nearest boozer to drown our sorrows when 30 minutes later and after many texts and phone calls the game was back on!! Now we had the "Seel" of approval the previously cancelled travel plans kicked into action and Mr Reidy - having put the car in the garage for the night and settled down to watch TV in his jim-jams and slippers - made a quick dash to The Courtyard to collect us all.
Just under 45 minutes later we parked up outside Mossley's temporary home for the evening at Ashton United's ground at Hurst Cross. Despite their being 3 pr 4 pubs in the area we frequented Ashton's club which opens most nights of the week generating valuable extra revenue.
Having paid £7.00 admission and a further £2.00 for a glossy but fairly basic programme it soon became evident that 350+ of the total attendance of 419 were from Halifax and were already hitting the food kiosk which had a steady stream of customers all game and served reasonable food.
Strange not to be describing Mossley's own ground but tonight's venue is an old fashioned, characteristic stadium having uncovered terracing behind both goals with a small main stand down one side housing the changing rooms and a compact covered standing area opposite this.
The Shaymen did well to come back from 2-1 down to lead 3-2 with just two minutes remaining but were denied all 3 points by a last gasp scrambled equaliser from a corner.
Just for the record this trip was do-able by train form both Halifax and Huddersfield, however the ground is a fair walk from Ashton station and we would not have been back in Halifax till 11.30pm.
Journey Distance:54 miles.
