The Date: Tuesday December 8th 2009.

The Result: Stamford 2-1 FC Halifax Town - after extra time.

Roy Reidy's trusty Rover set off at 4pm for the journey down the A1 for tonight's encounter and after a decent two hour run we arrived at The Vic Couzen's Stadium on the outskirts of Stamford just a two minute drive from the A1 itself. It's a shame this was a night match as Stamford itself is an historic place with some good pubs and eateries however we went straight into the ground - £8.00 admission and an additional £1.80 for what looked like a hastily cobbled together programme.

The stadium was basic to say the least with a small covered seating area down one touchline adjacent to the compact but very welcoming clubhouse which also housed the food hut which provided reasonable tucker at competitive prices. The opposite had a corrugated iron shed to stand under whilst there were open viewing areas behind both goals.

The gently undulating pitch looked quite bumpy and this proved to be the case once the match had kicked off and with the onset of rain mid way through he first half conditions became difficult and The Shaymen had the worst case scenario outcome losing 2-1 after extra time and also having Scott Phelan red carded.

So we headed back up North reflecting on the night's events eventually arriving home just before midnight although Roy's trusty Rover was sounding more like a Sherman tank as he dropped me off!!

Journey Distance:224 miles.

Total Distance For The Season:2121 miles.

Terry "Chadders" Sunderland looking forward to attending Throstle Nest.
