Colwyn Bay: Preview

Posted on: Sun 29 Aug 2010

FC Halifax Town have a chance to bounce back from their first defeat of the season straight away on Bank Holiday Monday when they host Colwyn Bay.

The Shaymen suffered a surprise loss in Staffordshire, only Neil Aspin's third league reverse since becoming Town manager, after being in-front at half-time through Nathan Taylor's first goal for the club. But, a second-half comeback by the home side clinched all three points.

That made it one win, one draw and one defeat from Town's first three matches this season after a 0-0 stalemate at Frickley and a 2-1 victory over Buxton.

Colwyn Bay have also won, drawn and lost in their opening three games after beating North Ferriby 3-1 on the opening day of the season, losing 3-0 at home to Ashton last week and drawing 2-2 with Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday.

Strikers Karl Noone and Jon Newby have notched two goals each so far, while Ian Sheridan, who scored the winner for the club in last year's play-off final, also has a goal to his name this term.

The Seagulls were promoted to the Evo-Stik Premier after a seven-year absence last season under previous manager Neil Young, but are now under the guidance of former Tranmere long-throw exponent Dave Challinor.

Midfielder Damian Allen played for Halifax during the 2008-09 season, and started his career at Manchester United along with team-mate Michael Lea, while Newby won the FA Youth Cup with Liverpool in 1996 in the same team as Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen.

James Dean Vs Chasetown
James Dean set to miss out due to injury

Aaron Hardy, Jamie Vardy, Danny Lowe and James Dean are all expected to be absent through injury, meaning the squad that lost at the weekend will have a chance to make up for that defeat against Colwyn.

To see if the Shaymen can maintain a 100% home record this season places, be at The Shay for Monday's 3pm kick-off.

If you can't make it to the game, the official FC Halifax Town website will be providing regular updates on all the action throughout the afternoon, and highlights of the match will be available on Shaymen Player from Tuesday.
