Colwyn Bay: Preview

Posted on: Fri 12 Mar 2010

FC Halifax Town face Colwyn Bay at the Shay on Saturday in the Unibond League Division One North's stand out fixture. And, it's also the Shaymen's game in hand on current leaders Lancaster City.

The game is a vital one for both clubs.Victory for Neil Aspin's team would take them to within a point of Lancaster, the teams have still to face each other at the Shay, whereas Colwyn Bay need the points to stay in the championship race.

A gap is starting to open up at the top of the table with Town and Lancaster stretching away and a Town win could kill off the title challenge from the North Wales club. But, their away record is very impressive with 11 wins from 15 attempts and they will pose a serious threat to Town who have the best home record with 14 wins and a draw.

The midweek fixtures saw Town record an excellent 3 v 1 win away at Warrington Town and they will be looking to build on that. But, they were dealt a blow after the game when impressive midfielder Harry Winter's 3 month loan deal was cut short by Northwich Victoria. That could lead to a change in formation with a return to the 4-4-2 an option with Mark Peers or Andy Lee a possibility to join the midfield.

Top scorer James Deanfound the net again in midweek to end a rare 3 match barren run and he'll be looking to add more and few will forget his first half brace at Llanellan Road on the opening day of the season when the Shaymen won the reverse fixture 3 v 0.A similar performance and result on Saturday will do nicely and should satisfy what is expected to be a healthy Shay attendance.
