Ossett Albion: Preview

Posted on: Wed 03 Mar 2010

FC Halifax Town meet Ossett Albion on home soil for the 3rd time this season on Tuesday evening. And, it's no disrespect to the other competitions but this meeting is much more important than the previous two which were in cup competitions.

The Shaymen need the points after their surprise loss at Radcliffe Borough at the weekend to keep the pressure on League leaders Lancaster City whereas Albion need them for a difference reason as they are struggling towards the foot of the table.

For the record Town won both cup fixtures, 3 v 1 in the Unibond Presidents Cup followed by a 2 v 0 win in the Unibond Challenge Cup but on this occasion points are a priority.

Meetings with Eric Gilchrist's Albion side are usually feisty affairs as 6 red cards in the 2 League games last season show but the games are usually close affairs 2 with both matches ending in draws a year ago. But, Neil Aspin will be expecting his team to be fired up after he delivered an after match blast at Radcliffe when a usually mean defence conceded 3 goals after Scott Phelan and Harry Winter had given the Shaymen what appeared to be a comfortable lead.

Standing in the Shaymen's way will be Lee Ashforth in the Ossett goals who earns his living at the Shay through the Football in the Community programme and he and his team mates are generally highly motivated for visits to the Shay.It won't be an easy game, far from it, but FC Halifax Town start as red hot favourites.

Come along and support the lads but for anyone unable to attend the game the official website is providing regular updates.Log on to www.halifaxafc.co.uk from 7.30pm
