Curzon Ashton: Preview

Posted on: Sun 14 Feb 2010

Monday night's trip to Curzon Ashton gives FC Halifax Town the chance to record a victory over one of their nearest rivals at the top end of the Unibond League One North. And, a win would take the Shaymen to 2nd place in the table.

Curzon currently occupies the 5th place with 50 points from their 24 games but this total would have been higher with a 3 point deduction incurred by the Tameside club earlier in the season. And, things could get worse for them with a further deduction possible after alleged rule breaches that are currently being dealt with by the authorities.

Both sides warmed up for Monday with victories at the weekend.Town recorded a 3 v 0 with over Harrogate Railway Athletic whilst Gary Lowe's men secured an impressive 1 v 0 win in North Wales over Colwyn Bay.But, on Monday night Lowe will be without 2 players in Phil Edghill and Chris Curley who are both suspended following recent red cards whereas Neil Aspin has a fully fit squad to choose from with no noticeable injury concerns from the weekend.

Curzon has a good home record with only 1 defeat in 11 outings and this was against Warrington Town in December. They are also prolific scorers with 60 goals but on Monday they come up against a mean FC Halifax Town defence that has only conceded 18 so far in the League this season. And, the Shaymen have already recorded a win over Curzon at the Shay in September when a Steve Payne penalty settled the match.

Victory for the Shaymen would be a massive boost to their title ambitions and they will be backed by a sizeable following but for anyone unable to make the journey the official website will be providing regular updates.Log onto www.halifaxafc.co.uk from 7.30pm
