Boston United: Preview
FC Halifax Town travel to South Lincolnshire on Tuesday evening to face Boston United in the Quarter Final of the Unibond Challenge Cup.And, although the history books show the clubs have only faced each other once before, a pre season friendly in August 1993 (Town won 1 v 0), there are some similarities in that both are ex Football League clubs that have suffered serious financial problems but are now looking to bounce back from the lower reaches of non league football.
The Pilgrims are a League above the Shaymen, plying their trade in the Unibond Premier Division, and they are enjoying a successful season currently lying in 2nd place behind Bradford Park Avenue. They have joint Managers in Paul Hurst and Rob Scott who played together at Rotherham United and Scott did of course play for Halifax Town in the Conference under Chris Wilder. And, the connection with the Wilder days don't stop there as one of Boston's recent signings is right back Gareth Davies who also wore the blue shirt of the old club.
Neil Aspin hadn't given much thought to his starting line up for this game at the weekend but it's extremely unlikely his strongest available team will start the game as League priorities. But, as with the win over North Ferriby in the previous round this gives opportunities to others to impress and fringe players will be eager to impress. And, there may be another opportunity for centre of excellence stars Jason Carney, George Fry, Hayden Kerris, and Sanchez Heffernan to catch the eye of the Manager again.
For any fans unable to make the journey to the York Street ground, the official website will be providing updates, log onto www.halifaxafc.co.uk from 7.30pm
