Wakefield FC: Preview

Posted on: Fri 05 Feb 2010
Ronnie Glavin´s Wakefield FC are the only side in ten visitor´s so far to take a point from the Shay in a Unibond League game this season. So, Saturday´s short trip to College Grove gives Neil Aspin and his squad a chance to take revenge and record another victory.

Given the bizarre nature of this season´s fixture list the season reaches the half way point after this game even though the finishing line is less than 3 months away.

The game at the Shay in early December saw Danny Lowe notch his first goal in an FC Halifax Town shirt and it was an important strike to cancel out the impressive visitors first half lead. After that the game could have gone either way so Town know they are in for a difficult game.

Last season´s visit to Wakefield, at a similar time of year, resulted in a convincing win. But, the fixture will bring back bad memories for Neil Ross as he sustained a knee injury that kept him sidelined for many months. And, fans with good memories will also recall David Brown´s only goal in an FC Halifax Town shirt.

Neil Aspin is hoping to have Steve Payne available to strenghthen his defence that conceded 3 at Mossley in midweek but his attack was on song with 3 goals of their own with only a last gasp equaliser denying Town a win. More of the same attacking threat will suffice on Saturday.
