Ryton Vs FC Halifax Town - Preview
With the club still smarting from Tuesday's disappointing 3 v 1 defeat at Mossley, FC Halifax Town turn their attentions to the FA Cup this weekend with a trip to Ryton FC in the first qualifying round. And they are boosted by the return of Club Captain Tony Barras who has declared himself fit after a knee operation during the close season.
Town have injury concerns which mean that Jim Vince has only released former Barnsley youngster Tom Harban so far after threatening wholesale changes immediately after the Mossley game.A number of players are carrying knocks ahead of Saturday and added to this is the huge blow of Ross Clegg likely to miss the whole season with a knee injury. The Manager is however hopeful of adding a couple of new faces to his squad before Saturday's game.
Ryton are not a household name but the North East side will be given all the respect they deserve by Jim Vince and his squad who head up the A1 determined to progress in the competition, regain some pride and show better times lie ahead. The FA Cup is all about shocks and Town will need to be at the top of their game.
Ryton ply their trade one level below The Shaymen and currently lie in the bottom half of the Skill Training Ltd Northern League with 5 points from 5 games. This is the equivalent level of Silsden FC who was Town's opponents in the previous round with The Shaymen triumphing 3 v 1 in the replay after a goalless first game at the Shay.Ryton reached this stage with a 2 goal victory away to Billingham Synthonia.
An added incentive for both sides is the £3,000 cheque that awaits the winners who will also have the chance to progress further in football's most famous competition.
Vince told the official site, "It is a very important game for us on Saturday, it's the FA Cup. It's the biggest football competition in the world. We want to win on the Saturday which is the minimum requirement. We've put things in place tonight and worked on a few things which will hopefully appease the fans.
We have signed two new players subject to the paperwork being signed before the deadline tomorrow.
There is the talk at the moment that Halifax has money to burn at the moment by fans and other teams but I can say that's not the case. We have a competitive budget and we are working accordingly. It's not about spending money to buy this and that player; it's about bringing in the right players at the right time. We are not looking to spend silly money but to spend it sensibly and when it is needed."
FC Town face Warrington Town at the Shay on Tuesday night in the Unibond First Division, 7-45pm kickoffs.
