The Result:Frickley 0-0 F C Halifax Town.

Our first away jaunt of the new league campaign had us making the shortish trip to South Elmsall the former mining town which once housed Frickley Colliery.

My thanks to Ian for driving and Roy and Zeb for their sparkling banter on the50 minutes or so journey to the Tech 5 stadium.

The ground affords limited car parking and after paying £8.00 admission and a further £1.50 for a commendable effort at a programme (we are somewhat spoiled at The Shay)we entered the compact but sociable clubhouse to wet the whistle before the nights entertainment began.

The stadium itself comprises of an old fashioned wooden seated stand down one touchline with covered terracing opposite; whilst open viewing areas are situatedbehind both goals. The main back drop to the ground is the redundant slag heap of the old mine which thankfully now has some foliage on it and is not just a black eyesore as it was on my last visit some 10 years previous.

The food and drink on offer was of a decent standard and reasonably priced and whilst there was a queue during most of the game they did not run out of anything which ensured that the 500 0r so Town fans amongst the total attendance of 748 were adequately fed and watered.

As to the game itself a point at away from home is not to be sniffed at however after a sluggish first half our dominance and number of chances created in the second half should have yielded all three.

Total Journey Distance:77 miles.

Terry "Chadders" Sunderland.
