FC United have started their season with a 2-0 away win at Marine courtesy of two goals from striker Mike Norton.

Norton, a summer signing from the Curzon Ashton, has scored 10 goals in 9 preseason games and has started the season in good form.

Marine finished the game with nine men with striker's Thomas Moore (63) and Kevin Leadbetter (72) seeing red cards in front of 933 fans at the Arriva Stadium.

In Saturday's games Ashton United started the new season with three points as they beat Burscough 1-0 at Hurst Cross.

There were home wins for Bradford Park Avenue in a 2-1 win over Chasetown, Kendal beat Frickley Athletic 1-0, Matlock Town won 1-0 againt Stocksbridge Park Steels and Whitby Town were 3-2 winners over Mickleover Sports

Worksop Town got their season off to a good start with a 2-1 away win at Nantwich Town and Northwich Victoria got the only goal of the game at Retford United

The only draw on the opening weekend came in the match between Hucknall Town and Ossett Town which finished 3-3
