King - Kick Up The Backside!
Kris King came off the bench for the Shaymen in the 3-2 victory at Woodley Sports on Saturday and was thrilled to see the team go top of the pile in Unibond First Division North, even though he hasn't started a league game since early October. He told the Official site after the game:
"'Top of the league,' sounds very good. We've had cracking support yet again, it wasn't the easiest pitch to play on being a 3G surface, and we had a bad start but we were always on top really, as long as they didn't catch us on the break we knew that we'd get a good result.
"It was 3-1 at half-time and we came out thinking we might have already won the game, they crept into it a little bit and then we had to battle in the last 10-15 minutes to get the win.
The Gaffer has had a little word with us about the recent second half performances, it's not the fitness levels at all, we are a fit group of players, but the problem is if we're leading in a game we need to keep the foot on the pedal and not let that go."
And the young defender is determined to get back into the side on a more regular basis to keep the club at the top of the table. He revealed:
"I had a good start to the season but I haven't been able to get in the team over the past 3 or 4 weeks because we've been flying. Junior's been bagging the goals in for us, so he's on top form and really he's keeping me out of the team.
It's been a kick up the backside for me because as I say I had a good start, then I had an indifferent couple of games, got dragged off, then done well again, but it's all experience for me, I'm only 19 so it puts me in good stead for a bright future, hopefully."
The Shaymen and Kris King take a break from league action tonight when Sheffield FC visit The Shay in the Presidents Cup.
