FC Halifax Town concluded their pre season programme with a fine performance in a 2 v 0 victory at Ossett Albion. On another day The Shaymen would have scored a hatful of goals but today they were grateful to 2nd half headers from Steve Payne and Ashley Stott.

Injuries to Kris King, Neil Ross and Junior Brown failed to stop Jim Vince's men as the home side adopted robust tactics to say the least.

After a quiet opening to the game Ashley Stott had the first shot of note but his2o0 yarder deflected through to the Ossett keeper.Neil Ross headed a right wing cross wide before limping from the field and his replacement Ben Jones should have given The Shaymen the lead but his close range effort from Ross Clegg's cross cannoned back off the bar and the first have ended without a goal.

Lincoln Adams' header from a Justin Walker free kick looked goal bound until Steve Payne inadvertently cleared whilst attempting to tap the ball home at the far post.A couple of Jon Smith free kicks failed to find the target and Ben Jones hit the bar for the second timeand just when it looked turning into a frustrating afternoon 2 goals in 3 minutes duly arrived.

A well worked corner on the left saw Steve Payne rise high to head home Dorryl Proffitt's cross and Town continued attacking with Junior Brown crossing from the right.Ashley Stott rose and guided a header home from 6 yards to double the lead.

More attacks followed but no further goals arrived.Jim Vince and his side now take added confidence into next Saturday's opening fixture at home to Bamber Bridge.

Vince told the official website, "I was very disappointed by Ossett's over their attitude and the way they set about the game. It was outrageous and all they wanted to do was kick us.

It got to a point that I said to the referee that if there was another challenge like that we would walk off. We don't need it and were doing them a favour and the way they showed us disrespect was outrageous and we won't be coming here again.

Kris King is going to hospital for a scan; he has stud marks all the way down his leg. You can live with that in a real competitive game but not in a friendly.

We don't get involved, we have set standards and we aim to keep them. We won't go around kicking teams. I guess that's the standard this season, we have rose against it today. I am pleased with the way we kept to the game.

Steve Payne is now our top scorer with one for us and one for the opposition. He's top scorer in the club's history which he has some ribbing about in the dressing room, which is good banter. I thought we looked good at the back today.

I thought Ashley was great today; he could have had another couple of goals. He has good movement and we know what he can do. He will be a really good acquisition for us.

We hit the bar I think 3 times today, it's started to come together and in terms of next week's game against Bamber Bridge is Bring It On".
