Town vs BUrton

A late own goal from loanee defender Mark Roberts sees Burton Albion return home with all 3 points after a 2-1 victory.Chris Wilder played down talk of a physcological advantage for Burton ahead of next Saturday's FA Cup tie with next week's game being a totally different game.

The Shaymen played very well at times, especially in the first half when they fought back from being a goal down to equalise and the curse of the woodwork at the North Stand end struck again with 2 Steve Torpey efforts striking the post. But, Chris Wilder is hampered by injury problems.Already missing some senior players Town were handed a boost before kick off when Tyrone Thompson passed a late fitness test but Hull City loanee Tom Matthews limped from the field at the end of the game, the latest victim of the Right full back jinx that has seen Steve Haslam, Gus Uhlenbeek and Ryan Toulson on the treatment table having occupied the right sided defensive berth.

Today's game started slowly but Steve Torpey looked a threat with a 5th minute run from his own penalty area but his pass failed to find Ryan Sugden. From their first threat Burton took the lead.Paul Carden's shot was deflected out for a corner and Aaron Webster powerfuly headed Keith Gilroy's corner past Craig Mawson. Before the game Chris Wilder had warned his team of Burtons aerial threat at set pieces.

Mark Roberts almost equalised immediately but his glancing header from Torpey's free kick went narrowly wide.Torpey was popping up all over the field and he unluckily hit the post with a right foot shot with former Birmingham City goalkeeper Kevin Poole well beaten.Lewis Killeen combined with Sugden but the cross was too high for Danny Forrest.Torpey's unlucky afternoon continued on 20 minutes when he shot goalwards following a well worked corner routine with Martin Forster but the post intervened again.

After half an hour Torpey finally, and deservedly, got his name on the score sheet.Sugden released Forrest on the right and his cross was diverted into Torpey's path by Killeen. His first effort was blocked on the line by Gary Rowett but he followed up to score his 4th goal in the last 3 games and the former FC United of Manchester man now joins Ryan Sugden as the Clubs top scorer on 5 goals.

Adam Quinn headed Thompson's cross over the bar in first half stoppage time and it looked as though 3 points were on the cards as Town headed into the dressing rooms on top.

Chris Senior vs Burton

Forrest threatened twice at the start of the second half. From his surge into the box he was unable to pick out a Town player then minutes later he just missed the target with a powerful left foot shot.

The game became scrapy.Burton enjoyed the majority of possession without troubling Mawson but Town failed to find the cohesion in their attacking play they showed before the interval.Shane Smeltz and Chris Senior replaced Sugden and Torpey after 71 muinutes.

Burton substitute Andy Ducros header over after Darryl Clare's shot was deflected into his path.Lewis Killeen's shot on the turn went wide and a draw looked a certainty until Mark Roberts turned Andy Corbett's cross past Craig Mawson. Roberts was unfortunate with Jon Shaw ready to pounce behind him.

So, Burton head home with 3 points.Maybe this time next week Halifax Town will be heading North with an FA Cup victory under their belts. And, lets also hope the horrendous run of injurys cease, Chris Wilder will certainly be praying they do.
