FC Halifax Town midfielder Tom Baker spoke to Shaymen Player after the club's 2-1 opening day win over Buxton, and said the team were happy to begin the campaign with a victory.

"It's always nice to start with a win, especially at home. It's a good three points and hopefully we can kick on from here."

Baker also had praise for Buxton, who improved after half-time to equalise before Halifax's winning goal.

"It was a tough game, any team you play in this league is going to be tough. Buxton played well, the game was really tight but I thought we played well and deserved the three points."

Jamie Vardy netted the winner on his debut for The Shaymen, and Baker said he was pleased with the style of the goal.

"Fantastic goal, it was a good bit of play actually. We had a throw-in on the half-way line, great ball from Aaron Hardy, Vardy showed some pace to get in behind them and a great finish."
