FC Halifax Town manager Neil Aspin joined Shaymen Player after watching his side beat Buxton 2-1 in their first game of the season, and was happy to get off to a winning start.

"If you move up a division, you want to get the three points and get off to a winning start. Having new players, it helps to build confidence so they get a belief that they can win games at this level."

Danny Holland scored the opener on his debut for the club, and Aspin was pleased to see the striker get going so quickly.

"It's nice for Danny to get off the mark. He's changed his game since I had him at Harrogate. He's become a better all-round player, especially his hold up play and over a season, he will score goals."

Jamie Vardy also netted a goal on his debut for the club, and Aspin had special praise for his new recruit.

"He's a player that I've wanted for the last couple of years and today he's made the first goal, scored the second and won us a penalty, so his contribution has been very good."
