New signing Simon Garner spoke to Shaymen Player after making his first appearance at The Shay and was happy with his day's work.

"It's going really well, I'm enjoying training and playing and I'm looking forward to every game. We've got a great set of lads here."

Garner also spoke about his pre-season training where he blew the rest of squad away in the running stakes.

"The lads gave me gip for that but you just do it for yourself. We're all at different levels of fitness but as long as you put the effort in you get the rewards out."

Garner admitted it may be a difficult task to break into the first team this season.

"I've played a couple of different positions so far but we've got a brilliant squad so I'll have to get my head down and work hard to get into the side."
