"I'm very excited to be back, I didn't really want to go last year and hopefully I can try to gain and keep my place this year."

Winter was pleased with the team's performance in their 5-0 win at Brighouse Town. He said: "I thought we were quite sharp in the first-half, I didn't really see the second-half as we had to do some running but a solid first game."

Winter also had praise for his fellow new recruits, including Scott Metcalfe.

"I knew Scott from Trafford, so I know what he's like, he's a fast runner, he gets at people, and all the other lads looked fast and sharp."
