Radcliffe Borough: I Never Saw That Coming

Posted on: Sun 28 Feb 2010

Following Town's 3-2 lose to Radcliffe today, Neil Aspin spoke to Adam Cheshire:

"I would always say that a game is never won at 2-0 but I'd be lying if I thought I'd seen that coming, we were well in control but and we had been for 80% of the game and we should have won today. I'm the most disappointed I've been since I've been at the club and it's the most disappointing result we've had and from being in a great position we've certainly through it away."

Aspin gave his thoughts on what went wrong:

"It was bad defending on all three goals, they were all goals we could have dealt with better and we needed not to concede the first one because it gives them a way back into the game. From that point on we gave them a leg up and they pushed forward and they've won the game. So, I'll give them credit because they kept going, they were totalled outplayed by us for 70 minutes of the game. We should never have lost the game, it's a big blow and you can only shout and bawl for so long. We've got to regroup and get on with Tuesday night."

Before conceding the goals, Town were playing some excellent football:

"I thought we were playing particularly well and I couldn't pick fault with anyone in that spell. We were well in control and then as you say we conceded and they got the impetus they had nothing to lose. They pushed forward and then suddenly the game has gone away from us but I can't dwell on it and the players can't dwell on it. We've got to start again on Tuesday and we've got to get the result."

Neil also gave his views on Town's goals:

"He's not scored many goals this season but obviously Scott and Harry Winter getting goals from midfield was good. But at the minute I'm struggling to see any of the positives at the moment, I've got the awful sick feeling you get when you lose matches."

Radcliffe's 'keeper pulled off some good saves and Aspin praised his and the team's efforts:

"He's made some very good saves, especially one at 2-2 which was a tremendous save and he's kept them in the game. I expected a tough game but the way we played in the first and most of the game, we were very comfortable. It was only in the last twenty minutes that they've put us under any pressure and then they've got back in the game."

After today's performance Town must look forward and get this defeat out of the systems:

"We've got make sure we're not going to fall back, we've got to keep playing and we've got to keep pushing."

Neil gave his views on our excellent home run and Tuesday's game to Ossett:

"Yeah but it means nothing. We've got to continue our run on Tuesday and of course we're under pressure now after that defeat."
