After tonight's 2-0 win against Rossendale at the Shay, Aaron Hardy spoke to Adam Cheshire after the game and firstly gave his thoughts on the conditions:
"Terrible conditions out there with the snow but results wise we're obviously happy. Performance wise in general the first half was poor and the second half was a bit better but we can play much better. I think with the conditions, not only the snow, the pitch is quite boggy and I think in the second half we've coped pretty well in the end."
"I think we deserved to win the game and Rossendale were obviously struggling at the bottom of the league and you can see them sort of in the way their playing with five across the park that they've come here more hoping for the one point. But at half time I think they would have been the more happy team. The gaffer had a bit of a go at us at halftime and rightly so because we were poor, he wanted the tempo high and we never got it up there and I think second half we slightly improved."
After a tough game by Rossendale, Aaron told Adam what he thought of his opponents:
"They're going to scrap for every ball and I think they've only got 12 points over the season, it's a game we expected to win so going into these games we've got everything to lose and they haven't so if they get a draw or even snatch a win they go back heroes."
"It's another three points on the board and it keeps us up there with Lancaster and the pressure on. They haven't played tonight so we'll go into Saturday at Radcliffe confident."
After Rossendale conceded the penalty, James Dean stood up and scored:
"The pressure was on Dean and on the team in general to get the first goal and once the first goal goes in, it breaks the game up. They've then got to go out and press to get a goal and when we play teams like that struggling at the bottom we're always going to come out on top in games like that when we get the first goal. So obviously Deano's done well for us, it was a great finish and it set us up for the victory."
Neil Aspin's changes in the second half gave Town a boost:
"He took a couple of players off and to be honest it could have been any of the players, unfortunately for Scott and Scooby it was them this evening. I'm sure the decision to take them off isn't often based on individual performances I think it was just a case of he wanted some fresh legs."
Tonight's clean sheet was something to talk about:
"The gaffer keeps talking about cleans sheets and he's right to be honest because if we keep a clean sheet in most games and score, I think we've only not scored in one game, and if we keep a clean sheet we're more than likely to get a goal with the firepower we've got in the team and the attacking threat. A clean sheet is good for the team, it brings confidence and we can take tonight's into Saturday's game with Radcliffe, along with the three points gained."
And after a great game by Aaron, he told us a little bit more about his game:
"I keep myself to myself and the lads know what I'm like. I just try to be as consistent as I can and obviously I want to play well every week but the main thing like the gaffer always says to the players, give 110 percent no matter what and no only will your fellow players recognise that but the fans will and they'll know your working hard. In general I just try to play as well as I can and hopefully we get three points each week and we gain promotion."
And he praised the grounds men and fans for helping get tonight's game on:
"Obviously it's very difficult for the grounds men; not only with the snow coming down but obviously over night it's going to be cold. The weather seems to be going for one extreme to the other and it's very difficult to know what sort of things need doing to the pitch, whether you need to cover it or get the snow off. All the lads appreciate what the grounds men did to get the game on tonight and we'd obviously like to say a big thank you to them."
But with another game this Saturday, Aaron's main focus is Radcliffe and getting three points:
"Coming towards the second half of the season we need to be winning games rather than drawing them. Radcliffe is going to be a difficult test and for every game from now until the end of the season it's going to be a battle. We're going there full of confidence on a winning run and hopefully we can go there and get the three points we need."
