Mossley: Appreciate Plaudits But 3 Points Most Important

Posted on: Sat 27 Feb 2010

Scott Phelan put in another exceptional performance yesterday as he inspired FC Halifax Town to an impressive 4-2 victory over Mossley. Speaking exclusively to the Official Website after claiming his 'Sponsors Man of the Match' wine, he said:

"Ironically I think I've played better of the last couple of weeks than I have done in the last couple of games! I made a few sloppy passes but sometimes that happens and you end up getting Man of the Match! But any time someone says that you've played well then you always appreciate it and I sincerely appreciate it this time."

And it was the midfielder's right-wing cross that got the ball rolling, as Captain Ryan Crossley thundered in the opening goal. Phelan recalled:

"I got the ball into the box, Nicky Gray had a great header saved and Ryan Crossley managed to put the rebound in, but before that Scooby had a couple of chances, Nicky had one so we could've been 2-0 up at least before the eventual opener. But we deserved the goal when it came. They equalised which could've deflated any team but we reacted well and scored just before half time. From then on we was quite comfortable."

But despite a fantastic individual performance Phelan was only bothered about the three points that the Shaymen picked up, which went a long way in maintaining their promotion push. He said:

"The three points is the most important. The bottle of wine just sits by the fridge really, so the three points is all I'm and the rest of the lads are bothered about, especially as we try to catch up on all our games. It wasn't an easy game against Mossley. They won well earlier in the week against Warrington. They were on a good run of form so it was a good result."
