Richard Marshall continued his fine goalscoring run of form in the 4-2 win against Mossley on Saturday but insisted to the Official Website after the game that the three points was the "main focus" going into the game. He exclusively revealed:
"It's great to score in every game if you can but it's all about the three points. It wasn't a bad performance by the lads although it was a bit gutting at the end to concede another goal. But as long as we get the three points then that's alright as that is the main focus. It could've been more comfortable. We could've been 4-0 up after 10 minutes but chances went begging but we got the win in the end."
Marshall, arguably, scored the game's most crucial goal. Town had taken an early lead thanks to Ryan Crossley's third strike of the season but they were pegged back in the 40th minute when the visitors equalised. However, Marshall calmly made it 2-1 on the stroke of half-time largely thanks to a James Dean assist. Marshall commented:
"I'm still laughing about it really because Deano's actually played a ball across for the first time! But I've taken it well and stuck into the corner. It's lovely when goals like that come off. And it came at a good time just before the break which meant we had a 2-1 lead so it made it easier for us going into the second half."
And Marshall thought the three points were a just reward after Mossley snatched a cruel draw in the reverse fixture a couple of weeks ago. He said:
"I wouldn't call it 'revenge' as such but we felt that we deserved more than a point against them a couple of weeks ago but we took our chances today so it's all good."
Town now face bottom side Rossendale at The Shay on Tuesday evening, a game that everyone involved with the Club wants to go ahead. Speaking ahead of a negative weather outlook for the next couple of days, Marshall said:
"Hopefully the game will be on against Rossendale on Tuesday. If we win we'll put more pressure on Lancaster."
