Harrogate Railway: Glad To Get The Points

Posted on: Sun 14 Feb 2010

After conceding late equalizers twice in two league games, FC Halifax Town Manager Neil Aspin was delighted with his team's comfortable 3-0 victory over Harrogate Railway.  Speaking to Shaymen Player's Tom Snee after the game, Aspin said;

"Having conceded late in the last two (league) games, I felt if we kept a clean sheet today we would win the game, and we took control once we took the lead.The only chances they had came from our own errors, but overall I'm pleased with the result and the points."

Aspin was particularly effusive in his praise of the front three of Dean, Marshall and Gray;

"You always fancy one of them to score, James Dean has been the man for most of the season but today it was Scooby (Richard Marshall) and Nicky (Gray) who got the job done today.Providing we defend properly and keep a clean sheet, we will win most games"

After the poor weather over the last few weeks, the Shay pitch had to be covered in large amounts of sand just to make it playable.Aspin praised the work of the groundsmen, saying;

"We would love to have a perfect pitch all season but we know realistically that isn't going to happen.With the weather that we have had and also the rugby club playing on it, there will always be problems - there is a lot of sand on it but we we're not going to use it as an excuse at any time, we have to win the game we have at home."

Looking ahead to Monday night's clash at Tameside, Aspin was clearly aware of the importance of a good performance as well as a positive result;

"Curzon are the one team that has outplayed us in the second half at home this season, they kept the ball well and were unfortunate to lose the game. We know it will be one of the toughest games of the season, but if we want to go up these are the games we have to get results in"
