Mossley: It´s Two Points Dropped

Posted on: Thu 04 Feb 2010

Despite conceding a heartbreaking last minute equalizer for Mossley on Tuesday night, manager Neil Aspin is still pleased with the level of effort shown by his players in the 3-3 draw.

Speaking to the Official Website, Aspin said;

"I think its two points dropped in the grand scheme of things - particularly with taking the lead late on - but its a point gained if you look at how we conceded the second goal.I'm disappointed we didn't get all three points, but I can't fault the players for their effort and determination to get back in the game"

The game was marred by a controversial decision by the referee, who chose to overrule his assistant's offside flag.Aspin was rightly furious about the decision at the time, and continued to vent after the game;

"I've never seen a referee go over and attempt to explain the rules to his assistant - he's adamant that he was right, but it was a bad decision.We always say you should play to the whistle, but the amount of time the flag was up, everyone in the ground thought it was disallowed.I made sure I told the lads at half time that we shouldn't feel sorry for ourselves, and I'm pleased with how we reacted."

Looking ahead to Saturday's game against Wakefield, Aspin was adamant that his team would try and win all their remaining fixtures;

"Every game we play, we try and get a win.We know that Lancaster keep picking up points and are on a good run, but there is a long way to go.If we win our games in hand we are right back in there, it is far from insurmountable.There are plenty of games to go; as long as the players keep battling like they did in the second half tonight then we are in good shape"
