Vince - Let's Do That For 90 Minutes
Jim Vince was delighted with his side's performance this evening against Warrington Town, especially in the first-half, as FC Halifax Town recorded their first ever league win at The Shay.
After the game he said, "That's the football I've always tried to install in my teams, to play good, attractive football and we've seen that in the first half, the way we kept the ball, the way we moved up the pitch, the way we passed it, kept it and the end product was a joy. I love that, but we've got to do that for 90 minutes now. Today we've done it for 40 minutes at least, so now we need to work on fitness levels as I think we faded in the last 15 minutes and allowed them to come back into the game. But I guess I'm happy, first win at home, two wins on the bounce, two clean sheets. It's progression.
"The crowd have seen something tonight; they've seen some of the things that we're trying to achieve here so I'm pleased. Hopefully they've gone home and have told a few people. It's a respectable crowd, 750, Champions League night, horrible evening, so hopefully they'll go back and say, "Hang about, they do actually play good football."
"A word on Alan Russell-Cox - he's just brilliant at getting our lads treated and bringing them back. His dedication is fantastic and so is the expertise he gives to the team, because we've got lads back now fit and it's down to him and people miss that. Tony Barras, a month ago, had an operation on his leg, and Alan has got him back playing tonight. These are unsung heroes these guys, so I'm very grateful having someone like Alan Russell-Cox with us.
"And it's great having Tony back, apart from the little slip when he fell over! He's a calming influence and the little bit of passing that starts at the back, the 5-yard passes, it ignites the way we want to play. It shows the possession and the way we want to play football: if you keep the ball, you're going to score goals and win the game. That's what my team is all about - keeping the ball, creating opportunities, we just need to sort out that final bit now. But there are things in the pipeline…"
