Vince Pleased With Silsden Win
FC Halifax Town have booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 away win at Silsden tonight.
Town boss Jim Vince was delighted with his side who won the game with two goals from Ashley Stott and one from Jonathan Smith.
Vince said after the game, "We are trying to create something and we have seen it will take time.In the games we have played so far we have lacked aggression and a lack of ruthlessness. We have shown it tonight. In the first half we never lost a tackle, we were lively and busy. There was a desire from the lads tonight; we had four shots in the first three minutes on an absolutely horrible pitch.
We can play football but we've had to mix a little bit with them tonight. We always knew it would be a tough game coming here with the circumstances but we have overcome that. I am proud of the players tonight and the supporters should be too.
Silsden had 10 to 15 minutes spell in the second half and you're always going to get it away from home but we have coped with it.
I am pleased with every one of those players as they have worked their socks off for the team.
We have asked the players to show commitment and they have done that. It is good they have done that for the supporters who will all go home happy after that tonight.
We rolled our sleeves up in the last 20 minutes, we were disciplined and we were never going to lose the game.
We have set Ashley a target of 30 goals for the season and he's got two now, so only 28 more to go and he'll get them for us. He's been fantastic for us today and we need to get him sharper which we will. He's scored a good header and then stepped up to take the penalty, a lot of people will think it's easy but it's not. He's shown good character to step up and score from the spot for us.
For me every player played well but one player stood out for me technically and that was Jonathan Smith. I thought he was absolutely class, he's shown touches, he's had an overhead kick and he will do well for us.
You can win well and be good and you can win well but be ugly. I think we have been ugly tonight but we have been efficient, so I think everyone is happy.
The lads have put themselves under some pressure who was going to get the first goal. The reason we scored three goals was the desire and commitment from the players, they wanted to win the game.
All credit to Silsden they have done well and had a go again tonight. They will do well in their league this year. The FA Cup is cruel however I think over the two games we have deserved to go through."
Town's next game is away at Mossley on Tuesday 9th September, 7-45pm.
