FC Halifax Town Vs Bamber Bridge - Vince's View
FC Halifax Town lost their opening match of the season with a 3-0 defeat by Bamber Bridge at the Shay.
Town boss Jim Vince was not happy with his side's performance this afternoon.
He told the official website, "I don't think anyone expected that result this afternoon. We knew the game would be tough but unfortunately today the players didn't do themselves justice which I am bitterly disappointed about.
It's the opening game of the season and you build yourself up where you expect your players to perform. I was disappointed with some of their performances.
You couldn't knock Bamber Bridge today. They close down and worked as a unit. The one thing they had that we didn't was a desire to win the game.
Don't expect this to be the norm this season, I've just told them some home truths in there. They are good players, some quality players in there but they need to have a desire and hunger.
Bamber Bridge weren't better than us in the first half but at the start of the second half we gave away a stupid goal due to a lack of concentration within a minute of starting the half. We should have closed the second down and then we were chasing the game.
I made some changes to have a go at Bamber Bridge and I'd rather see us lose by a larger margin than not go for it. Credit to Dorryl Proffitt and Peter Moore when they came on, they had a go for us.
It's a bad dressing room and it's a case of shape up or ship out at the moment.
You can make as many excuses as you want. We were beaten 3-0 by a team which wasn't better than us. We didn't deal with the cross, we didn't close down for the second and then Kris King was caught out of position.
We conceded three sloppy goals and if you concede goals like that you won't win games. Full credit has to go to Bamber Bridge.
The crowd was fantastic this afternoon, which is the only positive that I can draw out of today. I feel sorry for the supporters who have come to the game today. It was a good crowd and they have come here to see the team play well but we've not done it and I feel a little embarrassed by that.
I won't have performances like that; the players need to respond to this and hopefully we'll get it right at Trafford FC on Tuesday night."
