YCFC Match :- Wilder's View
Halifax Town boss Chris Wilder said, "I have enjoyed tonight's game.I am though disappointed as we have had to work hard for our goals. It was a great set piece from Tom Kearney and a great header from Nathan Joynes. The second one came from a misplaced pass in midfield but he has come in and done ever so well for us and stuck it away superbly well.
I think it is a fair result tonight. I think they are an excellent side and have a lot of good players and are probably one of the most difficult games of the season here at the Shay.My players have rose to the challenge, but they are gift goals from our point of view, the first one I have a video in the office of 9 or 10 goals like that this season alone. The second one is an organisational thing for us. The lad's not had to do too much brilliant.
I don't mind if teams and York are one of them, teams who come and play football opening up your defence. It was a good game in terms of that. I don't mind if they score a goal of real quality and they have the capabilities of doing that as they have the players with that calibre. When the goals go into your net in that manner, it's heartbreaking for me, as we have done alright tonight. Colin Walker may say another thing; we feel we should have won the game.
Nathan scored with a fantastic header; I thought he looked lively all game for us.
They caused us some real problems for 20 minutes in the first half, so we changed our shape and then we went into the ascendancy going with three men up front and Heslop pushing up.
It was a big game, it was an open game, it was stretched, we enjoyed it and so did the players. But I'd have enjoyed it more if we had got the win under our belts.
That's three 2-2 draws on the bounce now - Northwich, Rushden and tonight. We don't make things easy. The spirit and the commitment is excellent, the character of the boys was good. We could have folded when we conceded with 15 to 20 minutes to go. It was a soft goal; they dug in and kept going. Lots to work on and we know where we need to improve.
Quinny is still not fully fit and he's given us lot. Simon Ainge is a young boy who has come into the side and given it a go. The top sides are really solid in that department and have competition for places which we haven't got at the moment.
We thought we'd give Mark Whitehouse a go. He has good pace, he stretched the game for us. He's raw and he needs a lot of work doing. You've seen the quality of his goal tonight, that's a little bit special for me. He's come in and he hasn't played any standard of football near this. 2000 fans and he comes on the pitch and within 5 minutes he has a situation, where a lot of people could have easily gone for pace and power. He's slotted it, it's a really good goal and I am delighted for him.
I thought Simon Heslop tried to drive us forward and caused York problems for us. They had to alter their shape on the back of it, which was good from our point of view. I thought Heslop played well. I also thought Anthony Griffith got himself back to where he has been for us. He's had to learn you can't go crashing into tackles and need to be timed and there were positive performances all over the pitch.
I was amazed at some of the football to be played tonight on the pitch. With the weather we have had recently, 13 to 14 degrees and then the lads go out and it's turned pretty quickly but both teams had a good go at it and it was a good advert for the Conference. I am gutted though as I wanted to win it."
