EUFC Match :- Wilder's View
Halifax Town manager Chris Wilder was disappointed with today's result but pleased that his side are still in the hat for the first round.
"We should have put the game to bed in the first half. It was a difficult game in the second half. We are disappointed with the result as we didn't play as well in the second as we did in the first half and create the chances that we did.
Full credit to Evesham, they battled for their lives. The longer games go on the more the players get edgy because one mistake can be crucial defensively. However I do think with the first half performance we should have been out of sight. It's maybe a lack of confidence on our part that we haven't.
We know we can do better but the main objective was to get through the tie. That is the bottom line when your drawn out in Cup competitions. We have to up our quality in the final third than we did in the second half and hopefully we'll get the result on Tuesday that we should have had today.
Three years ago we played Leek Town and we won with an extra time goal in the replay. We then got through to the second round. We need to take the criticism that comes from today. I've said to the players there will have been better teams knocked out of the competition today, we are still there. We should have got the result but we didn't. We need to stick together and move forward.
There was a lot of pressure out there today for the players. Some of them won't have been in that position today being the overwhelming favourites in the game. Any mistake the back four may make could end up in the back of the net.
I don't think there was a problem with the commitment today or the drive, it was probaby down to the final ball that let us down. If we had scored early, would it have opened the flood gates, I think it would have done. The longer the games, the more they will defend. You saw the reaction of them at the end, they were delighted with the result.
