Junior Brown's second half header sealed a 1 v 0 win for the Shaymen away at Curzon Ashton this afternoon to extend the Club's unbeaten League run to 7 games in which they have gained an impressive 19 points.

Town were not at their fluent best of recent weeks but they showed enough character, resilience and determination to grind out a deserved victory courtesy of Brown's 5th goal of the season.Pundits say the sign of a good team is an ability to win such games and Jim Vince's team proved their spirit and ability on a bitterly cold afternoon.

There were 2 changes to the starting line up that beat Clitheroe a week ago with Club Captain Tony Barrass returning from injury to replace Nigel Jemson who was absent from the game due to a long standing engagement. In attack Paul Gedman returned as a full time Shayman to partner Colin Daniel on his last appearance for the Club with Ashley Stott dropping to the bench.

Both sides struggled to cope with an increasing wind and a very bumpy surface in a first half of very few chances and little goal mouth action.Tom Baker was at the fore of most Town attacks but the final ball was lacking on a number of occasions and it took until the 27th minute for the first shot of note when Daniel volleyed over after being set up by Gedman.Curzon responded with a cross from the right by Glyn Barker that was headed from 6 yards out over by Alex Elliott.

Roared on by the majority of the 601 crowd Town came out fired up for the second half but it was Barker who had the first shot but he failed to test Jon Kennedy. Michel Norton went close when he dispossessed Danny Meadowcroft but shot wide from 20 yards out.

A Tom Baker free kick forced a save from David Carnell under his crossbar then the Town midfielder tried his luck from 25 yards but the keeper saved again as Town started to turn the screw.Ashley Stott replaced Damien Allen and Town immediately took the lead. From a throw in on the right, Daniel gave Scott Phelan a crossing opportunity and Junior Brown rose above his marker at the far post to head the ball back across goal and into the net. Meadowcroft failed to trouble Carnell with a header from a free kick then Gedman and Stott linked with the top scorer having his shot blocked.

Town had a let off when Elliott's shot from a left wing cross rebounded to safety off the post before Barrass cleared and the defence held firm to secure an excellent away victory at the Tameside Stadium.

The Shaymen now face Mossley FC at the Shay on Tuesday evening in what is now a massive fixture for the Club.
