Bamber Bridge Vs FC Halifax Town - Report
FC Halifax Town have climbed to 7th position in the Unibond Division One North table following a resounding 5 v 2 away victory at Bamber Bridge tonight. And they have emphasised their improvement since the opening game of the season when they lost at home by a 3 goal margin to the same opposition.
First half goals from Junior Brown and Ashley Stott gave them a half time advantage which they turned into 3 welcome away points with Colin Daniel, Junior Brown again and a late own goal completing the scoring with the hosts netting twice.
Town's midfield trio of Scott Phelan, Damien Allen and Tom Baker ran the show but there were good performances throughout the team.
There was a sedate opening to the game with Stott and Daniel both shooting wide from distance and Jon Kennedy largely untroubled at the other end.Lincoln Adams found his way into the inconsistent Referee's notebook on 19th minutes for a foul whilst far worse ones went unpunished.
Junior Brown gave the Shaymen the lead in the 21st minute when he took a pass from Cavell Coo 20 yards from goal in the centre of the field.Brown beat his man and shot past Andy Banks to the delight of the travelling fans from Halifax. The same player nearly added a second goal minutes later but his shot was blocked.
Danny Mahoney shot wide for Bamber Bridge then Ashley Stott was denied by a challenge in the area but he soon netted his 4th Unibond League goal of the season when he latched onto a poor back pass, rounded Banks and scored from a narrow angle with the aid of the post.
Town continued attacking at the start of the second period.Allen was denied a shooting opportunity by a good tackle after Stott had set him up but this was his last action for the evening as a cut to the head led to his withdrawal with Jonny Smith taking his place in midfield and he was soon in the action as Town scored their 3rd goal of the evening in the 54th minute. His pass found Junior Brown who in turn released Coin Daniel who held off a challenge before firing past Banks and the Shaymen had a 3 v 0 lead.
On the hour mark it was Junior Brown who scored his 2nd goal and his teams 4th of a productive evening.A free kick was cleared to Scott Phelan and his ball back into the box was headed across goal to Stott.Keeper Banks made a fine save but Brown was on hand to score.
A triple substitution from the home side looked to have inspired a fight back.Mike Mason received the ball 25 yards from goal, held off a Nigel Jemson challenge and curled a left foot shot past Kennedy then Alex Porter scored with a low 20 yard shot.
Danny Mahoney received a red card for the home side when he was involved in a scuffle with Junior Brown and pulled the Town player's hair. Brown received a yellow card as did Colin Daniel soon after.
Town settled any nerves with a 5th goal in the 85th minute when Craig McAllister glanced a near post header past his own keeper from Smith's left wing corner and the Shaymen played out the game to record a fine, and thoroughly deserved victory.
Town now face Clitheroe at the Shay on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
