FC Halifax Town Vs Durham City - Report
FC Halifax Town and Durham City take a point each from this afternoon's entertaining goalless draw at The Shay. The positives for Jim Vince and his side far outweigh any negatives following a much improved performance and on another day his side would have ended up comfortable victors.
It wouldn't be a normal week at the club without injuries and the Manager was forced into changes again. On the plus side Thomas Harban returned at right back with Peter Moore moving forward into midfield, Junior Brown returned on the left but up front a new pairing of Dorryl Proffitt and Nigel Jemson replaced Neil Ross who took a place on the bench with Ashley Stott absent with an ankle injury.Jon Kennedy made his return to the Shay taking over from Phil Senior in goal.
The unbeaten visitors had the first shot from Lewis Dodds but Kennedy made a comfortable save. The Shaymen attacked with Jemson's class showing and it was his flick that released Jonny Smith who in turn found Junior Brown. The winger beat his man but Smith was unable to convert the near post cross. Kennedy saved again from Tommy English before Town enjoyed a spell of attacking play that created a couple of good chances.
Firstly Jemson's flick from a throw in released Jonny Smith and he advanced towards goal but his low shot was saved by Craig Turns. Then Junior Brown skinned his opponent on the left and cross for Jemson but the veteran striker headed wide from 12 yards out.
Durham hada shot that curled wide in the 38th minute then with the half time whistle about to sound Jonny Smith received a pass from his brother Craig but shot over the bar and the first half ended at 0 v 0.
Dorryl Proffitt raced clear five minutes after the restart but his shot was blocked and was inches away from getting on the end of another Jemson flick minutes later.
Town had a scare when Stephen Capper got on the end of a ball from Stephen Harrison but Kennedy's outstretched legs saved his team.Calvin Smith then headed wide as Durham enjoyed their best spell of the game.
A number of substitutions affected the flow of the game but it was FCHT than finished the stronger. One of the substitutes, Neil Ross, tried an overhead kick that failed to trouble the keeper.Junior Brown then combined with another substitute Luke Hinsley and his cross was met on the far post by Peter Moore but his header lacked the power to beat Turns in the Durham goal.
Brown broke from midfield and was cynically held back by Andy Bowes who received the games only caution.Smith took the free kick but his powerful show was cleared. In injury time Brown forced the save of the game from Turns when he picked up the ball on the right, cut infield to unleash a 25 yard drive that looked destined for the back of the net until Turns saved with a full length dive away to his left.
The Shaymen are left to reflect on a much improved performance and will justifiably feel they deserved all 3 points. The next game provides a break from the Unibond League when Silsden FC visits The Shay on Saturday in the FA Cup.
