FC Halifax Town held their first Open Day at the Shay yesterday and despite bad weather early on it didn't dampen spirits and a good time was had by all.

There was the Official Photo Shoot, Legends 5 A Side Match, Local Bands, Stalls and finished off with a race night in the South Stand Bar.

One of the organisers Chris Neatby took time out during the race night to let the official website know how the day had gone.

He said, "The Open Day has gone really well for us. When I arrived this morning I don't think I've ever been so wet in all my life.

It started to dry out at lunchtime when people started to arrive and we have since seen 200 to 220 adults coming down plus all the children. So we were really happy with the turnout and the amount of children that came down was great and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Feedback has been good so far and I've been told that all the kids were leaving the Shay with big smiles on their faces. They will remember this day for a long time. Hopefully it will encourage them and their friends to come down and watch the Football on a Saturday. The Buzz at the moment is immense and I haven't felt like this for a few years.

The local bands have come down here for free and have given us a great afternoon. They didn't have to do it for free but it shows that that there is support for us out there. This makes more profit for the Supporters Club which benefits the Club in due course.

We had great support from everyone at FC Halifax Town for the event which we couldn't have done without their co-operation. Everything we have asked for we have got. It's excellent that Jim Vince and his entire squad have been down and have been willing to chat to the fans. There were plenty of autographs signed for the kids.

We have also had the support of the Halifax Community Stadium Trust and we'd like to thank Geoff Butler for his help. They have given us help and advice all the way through. Without their involvement we couldn't run the event.

We are always looking to improve. More volunteers are needed for next year and the weather to be good so we could have had the stalls out in the car park rather than under the Stand.

We have made approx £1500 out of today which includes the Open Day and the Race Night so in terms of profitability and enjoyment, we are really pleased."

There will be photos from the Open Day online later today.
