Stajic - It's Been A Shock To The System
In the first of a new range of articles, FC Halifax Town's official website will have the diary of Sales and Marketing Executive Pete Stajic.
For those of you who do not know me or what I am about:
Monday 25th August the day I officially became the Commercial Manager for the newly formed FC Halifax Town and here I am nine weeks later in the thick of things.
The strangest thing for me at first was not hearing the alarm going off at 6.40am in the morning, as in my last job I had to be one the road by 7.15am to miss the traffic getting to Wakefield, having said that I am still an early riser.
It has also been a bit of a shock to the system working from home, I am out and about a lot of the time but the paperwork certainly takes a lot of time up and it seems very strange being on my own and not in an office with 'mad people'.I still keep in touch with Clarks and am still wangling money out of my old boss to help the club.
So where do you start when you have nothing to follow on from, easy, from the bottom. It hasn't been easy, but there again I never thought it would be but it is getting a bit better and it's definitely getting a bit easier.
In the words of my wife Anne " they broke the mould when they made me".I am the most stubborn beggar on gods earth but if I start something I will definitely stick with it to the bitter end and this perhaps will give you an insight has to why I wanted this job and the type of person I am.
A big part of my life was spent in the licensed trade, where it seemed we were always asked to take pubs that were at rock bottom, probably the best place to start. The satisfaction you get from seeing something you have worked so hard for start to flourish is truly satisfying. It was very much the same when I joined Clarks, the Wakefield area was at rock bottom but after a lot of hard work I managed to turn it round and it went from strength to strength.
I suppose what I am trying to say is, you only get out what you put in. There are no guarantees in life but believe you me if I fail it will not be for lack of trying, lack of determination or lack of effort, I will not be happy until our club is back to where we all think we should be. Even then I still won't be happy because I will still want to make it even better. What happens if I don't turn it round, beggar that, failure is not an option.
So I started by looking at all the areas of sponsorship I had to sell, then armed with names, numbers and programs from years gone by, I started to make contact. Some were positive and some not so positive, as we obviously have a lot of bridges to build, but even some Companies who had not been treated very well by the old club have listened and I am confident that word will eventually get round that we are a new club and worthy of trust.
