AFC To Take Part In WorldNet

Posted on: Thu 21 Jul 2011

AFC Halifax complete a very eventful and memorable 12 months this weekend, when they travel over to Boddington Hall in Leeds to take part in the IFA WorldNET 2011 tournament. They will be taking two teams over again this year, with a very strong youthful squad looking to make progress in the open age competition, and the veterans squad, with a couple of additions will be looking to hang on to the trophy they won last year. After a very successful season, when the squad reached the IFA Cup semi final, only to be beaten by Preston, the squad also had the privilege of playing on Deepdale coming up against Tranmere Rovers. We also took aprt in the annual Jane Tomlinson Run for All in Leeds last month, and only two weeks ago completed the very difficult Yorkshire 3 peaks, 25 mile challenge in a time of 9.3/4 hours.

The open age squad will be coming up against teams from Bury, Portsmouth and Rotherham in the group stages, and managers Adam Ramsden and Ashley Addy are very confident they can progress into the knockout stages. The vets come up against Arsenal, Bury, Ipswich & Leeds United in what looks a very tough group, but Manager John Barker is sure the squad can use last year's victory as a spur to further success again this year.

AFC Halifax also take on our friends from Airdrie in the Big Tam Trophy at Worldnet. This is an annual game held in memory of Airdrie player Big Tam and AFC Halifax player Jonny Bramley, who both passed away last year.

May I also take this opportunity to thank all people that have helped the club thought the season, and also all sponsors who have helped us raise much needed funds for Macmillan cancer support.
