The Shaymen went into tonight’s fixture on the back on a gruelling 7-1 loss to Cheltenham on Saturday with just one goal from Kingsley James, his first in Town colours.
The Shaymen made an impressive start to the game as Jordan Burrows gave the Town their first goal following a few good chances early in the first half. Altrincham were unable to equalise despite some close calls, giving Town the lead going into the second half. This is the first time the Shaymen have carried their lead past the half time whistle. Altrincham equalised in the second half as Damian Reeves found the back of the net to make it 1-1. A second goal from Burrows pushed Town back into the lead and a late penalty goal from Kingsley James secured all three points for the Shaymen in their first win since Barrow on the 31st of August.
Town had their first chance on goal as a great pass into the box from Kevin Roberts was narrowly missed by Bolton who couldn’t get on the end of it just two minutes into the game. The Shaymen continued to apply pressure at Moss Lane, as Burrows came close but his header was sent wide and Altrincham denied Town their first goal.
Just 21 minutes into the first half and the Shaymen took the lead with Jordan Burrows finding the back of the net following a pin point pass into the box from Scott McManus. This is the second time Town have scored first this season, and the third time they have taken the lead.
Not long after, Kevin Roberts found himself in a prime position in the box but was unlucky not to fire home as Altrincham prevented the Shaymen from increasing their lead. The Robins looked to make an immediate reply as Jordan Sinnott’s shot narrowly missed the goal, hitting the right post as Glennon could only watch.
Just minutes later Altrincham hit back once more, almost beating Town keeper, Matt Glennon as they found the post once again in another close attempt to level the score before the half time whistle.
A hard tackle on Jordan Burrows by Gianluca Havern gave Altrincham their first yellow card of the game, as Altrincham tried to claw a goal back just before half time but were unable to find the back of the net.
Town came back out in the second half as eager as ever with plenty of chances to add to their goal tally. Tutton and Burrow paired up once more but the striker couldn’t keep his shot down, sending the ball over the bar.
In the 58th minute Altrincham hit back with an equaliser, as Damian Reeves fired home to give the Robins their first goal of the game. The Shaymen made an immediate reply, as a brilliant ball into the box allowed Jordan Burrows his second goal of the game, taking Town into the lead once more. Shaun Tutton came close to a third goal but couldn’t find the net as his shot is sent wide.
A late tackle on Jake Hibbs gave Town a penalty in the dying minutes as Kingsley James stepped up to the spot. His powerful shot found the net, to give the Shaymen their third goal of the game and their second win of the season. This is only the second time James has found the back of the net in the 15/16 campaign.
Altrincham made a push in the last minute to gain another goal but Town had done enough to secure all three points with a brilliant performance.
