FC Halifax Town returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion in a 5-0 victory over AFC Telford United. Adam Smith and Debutant Danny Hattersley being the main tormentors of the Telford back line.
It was a boisterous start to the game with Telford attacking straight from the off, forcing Matt Glennon into a save, before the ball was turned behind for a corner. From the corner, the Shaymen managed to hit Telford on the break, Adam Smith getting beyond the last man, however, he delayed too long and his shot was blocked by the recovering defender.
Smith was soon back into the game and it wasn’t long before debutant Danny Hattersley got involved in the action. A dangerous run down the right from Smith, ends up with the ball being put behind for a corner to Halifax, Smith whipped in the corner and it was met by Hattersley, but his header was just over.
Yet again Smith was back in action, tormenting the Telford full back and winning the team a throw in on the right hand side. Marc Roberts launched in a long throw which dropped nicely to Smith, who struck a lethal right footed volley past the stranded Hedge in the Telford goal.
Only moments later and the Shaymen doubled their advantage, Adam Smith turning provider for the goal as he dribbled past the Telford full back and floated in a great cross to the back post. Danny Hattersley connected with the ball and he made no mistake with his thumping header to get his first goal for the Shaymen.
Halifax came close to a third goal midway through the first half as Scott Boden met a Paul Marshall free kick, but his stooping header went just over the Telford goal.
Marc Roberts also came close to getting the third goal for the Shaymen, the centre half rose highest to meet an Adam Smith corner, however his header landed on the roof of the goal.
There was a more subdued start to the second half, the first real chance falling to Telford once again as Phenix got behind McManus and drilled a cross into the box, however Steve Williams read the ball well and managed to get in front of his man and turn the ball behind.
Halifax’s first chance came from the boot of Richard Peniket. A dangerous free kick from Marshall was turned behind by the Telford defender. From the resulting corner, the ball broke to Peniket at the back post, but the striker was unable to bundle the ball home as his shot hit the recovering Telford defender.
The Shaymen’s search for the elusive third goal finally came to an end thanks to a neat flick from the boot of Scott Boden. Smith delivered a corner to the back post, where Marc Roberts was able to take a touch before getting a shot away on goal. Scott Boden helped the ball on its way to goal with a little flick which wrong footed the Telford keeper.
Scott Boden was again in action as he forced the Telford keeper into a fine save. First Hattersley had a shot blocked on the goal line. Moments later, a ball is crossed into the path of Boden, whose header is saved by Hedge in the Telford goal. From that corner Marshall delivered to the back post where Hattersley rises to meet the ball, his goal bound header is glanced by Scott Boden but straight onto the bar.
Paul Marshall gets the fourth for Halifax after some neat play from the Shaymen. Kevin Roberts hit a ball up to Pearson, who flicked it down into the path of Danny Schofield. Schofield moved the ball into the path of Paul Marshall who, from the edge of the area fired a shot that nestled into the bottom corner.
Shaymen fans would be forgiven for thinking that would be the last of the goal action, however, they would be mistaken as Hattersley gets his second of the game. Boden and McManus teamed up on the left wing, before the latter crossed across the face of goal where Hattersley lurked to turn graciously home.
