The Shaymen take on the run away league leaders Barnet this weekend, in what is the two side’s first meeting this season. FC Halifax Town recorded back to back away wins in the Vanarama Conference on Tuesday night as they overcame a resilient AFC Telford 1-0.
Town are in a good run of form at the moment after both of their last two league games and securing a replay in the FA Trophy against Dartford. Matt Pearson has netted in each of his last three games and the northern outfit are putting together a good run of results at the right time. Their opponents have led the way at the top of the table all season and comfortably beat Southport 4-0 after losing two league games on the bounce.

John Akinde scored his 24th goal of the season against Southport on Saturday and is by far the league’s leading scorer. Barnet secured the services of Akinde from Alfreton Town at the end of last season and he has been a success from day one. Although averaging a goal every other game for Alfreton, the powerful centre forward has done even better in his short time in London. 24 goals in 33 games is not a bad return by any standards and he has been a leading influence in Barnet’s push to get back into the Football League.
The last meeting between the two sides was at the back end of last season where The Shaymen recored one of their most impressive victories of the season. The Hive has never been an easy place to go so to record a thumping 0-4 score line was credit to the team. An early goal from loanee Scott Spencer got things going before Lee Gregory added a second. The game was over by half-time as Spencer added his second and Halifax’s third. A second half goal from Lois Maynard wrapped up the scoring and made it a comfortable away day for Town.
