Neil Aspin expressed his delight after the announcements of his two latest signings, Gareth Seddon and Dan Gardner.
Seddon arrives from Fleetwood after cementing himself a very impressive non-league pedigree, and Aspin was ecstatic about capturing his signature.
“I’m delighted to have him board. He was the hardest player to sign because of the sheer amount of clubs that were chasing him once he became available, but credit must go to the chairman and the directors who have done very well to get him.
“He’s a player I first saw when I was manager at Harrogate and at the time he was the best forward in the league, since then he’s moved forward and last season he played nearly every game for Fleetwood as they got promoted so he’s another player coming in with a winning mentality. He loves to score goals, has a really hunger to win and his experience will be helpful so it’s a really important signing for the club and full marks must go to the board.”
As for Gardner, Aspin could not hide his happiness at the signing of the former Droylsden
midfielder, and he stated that he was his number one transfer target of the summer.
“He provided 17 goals from midfield last season and that was something we lacked so he was the first player that I wanted to sign once the season ended and I’m delighted he’s signed for us.
“He has a lot of talent, there is no doubt about that. He has good pace, good ability, he can shoot with both feet, pick out a pass and go past opponents. If he knuckles down and works on his game there is absolutely no doubt in my mind he can play at a higher level because he really is a talented player. We’ve given him a stage where he can show the abilities he has and if he performs he can go on to big things."
With the Shaymen’s squad beginning to take shape, Aspin is pleased with the competition there will be in his squad.
“There needs to be competition all round and we are slowly getting that. It takes time to build a squad but I’m pleased with the players we’ve brought in, they need to gel as a team and work for each other however I’m pleased with who we’ve brought in and it’s up to them to deliver.”
Aspin also admitted that there may be a few more signings to come.
“We need to make a few more signings. You don’t need to be an expert to see which departments we need to recruit in. I’m waiting to bring in players but I’m waiting for it to be the right player and someone who can contribute well so it could take time but we’re trying.”
