A Look At.......

FC Halifax Town earned themselves a replay against Dagenham & Redbridge at the Shay as they drew 0-0 at Victoria Lane in a thoroughly entertaining encounter.

It was chances galore for both sides with the best one falling to Liam King who somehow missed from only a few yards out, amazing the supporters who made the long trip down to East London

The first fifteen minutes of the game were rather uneventful, with Corey Whitely giving Kevin Roberts a test of keeping up with him down the left touchline. Josh MacDonald also tested Frankie Raymond on Halifax’s left side.

But as the fireworks exploded around the ground, the game exploded into life in the 18th minute. Guttridge’s cross was met by Whitely who was denied a goal thanks to a fantastic fingertip save from Steve Drench.

Denton showed off his great defensive duties throughout with his headed clearances coming to rescue on multiple occasions.

Jordan Maguire-Drew also showed his skill on the wing, as well as Whitely, turning Josh Wilde before firing an angled shot straight at Drench.

These chances seemed to inspire the Shaymen who then began to bombard the Daggers’ defence.

Without a doubt, the best chance of the first half fell to Liam King. King found himself on the end of Tom Denton’s knockdown, but somehow the skipper volleyed over when only three yards out from goal, causing many a Halifax fan to gasp in disbelief from the opposite end of the pitch.

Josh MacDonald’s crossing was outstanding in the first half, and the tricky winger found Denton’s head many a time, but the striker could only head straight at Mark Cousins.

Dagenham nearly broke the deadlock with the last kick of the game. Andre Boucaud played through Whitely with a lovely ball but the winger could only fire at Drench with a low angled shot.

The second half began similar to the first, with Dagenham seeing plenty of the ball but neither side creating any clear-cut chances.

Halifax’s defence were strong for the whole game and were crucial in keeping the scoreline level in the second half.

Whitely was a nuisance throughout the game and his curler was well blocked by Roberts who did well to keep up with the winger.

Maguire-Drew’s freekick was wonderfully saved by Drench’s fingertips; the follow-up shot once again denied by an expert block from Roberts.

Guttridge was played through and a square ball seemed the better option but he went alone, firing into the side netting.

Whitely finally got the better of Roberts, speeding past him before having his angled strike blocked and then cleared by Wilde.

In the dying minutes, it looked like Halifax could steal a winner. MacDonald fire a long range shot wide, before Wilde found Denton in the box. The tall forward however, was unlucky not to get a shot away to potentially steal a win.

The result means Dagenham now travel up to the Shay where the Shaymen have another chance to reach the FA Cup Second Round for the first time in their history. That game will be on 15th November, with kick-off coming at 7:45pm.
