Report Of AFC Fylde vs FC Halifax Town

FC Halifax Town suffered their first defeat under Billy Heath as they lost 3-2 to AFC Fylde.

In an eventful game, Tom Denton may have retained his status as top scorer in the league, however, Halifax lost their place in the play-off spots.

Scott Garner saw his volleyed shot deflected out for a corner just before the ten minute mark, in what was a steady, rather uneventful fifteen minutes.

The first real chance of the game came just after the fifteen minute mark. Danny Rowe, the top scorer in the league tried his luck on the free-kick from 35 yards, with Steven Drench doing well to get down and tip the ball behind the goal for a corner.

Matty Kosylo then headed wide after Josh Wilde’s left-footed cross and ended up taking a knock in the process. This didn’t stop the mazy runner getting back up to his feet to continue his good work down the left wing.

Halifax opened the scoring through Tom Denton who bagged his seventh goal of the campaign, levelling himself with Fylde Danny Rowe. Jordan Sinnott did well to release Josh MacDonald down the right wing, before the youngster bided his time before passing it to Denton. The striker hit a first time shot, which was blocked but made amends by firing home the rebound into the middle of the net.

However, the celebrations were short-lived with Caspar Hughes replying almost instantly. The number 11, cut inside from the right before timing his shot to perfection, beating Drench to his near post from 25 yards.

Tom Denton believed he’d scored his second of the day when he headed in, however the fourth official had his flag raised and the offside call cut off the jubilant celebrations in the away end.

Peniket had a chance to return the lead to the Shaymen, however great defending by Steve Williams denied him the chance, as the centre-back cleared Josh MacDonald’s promising cross.

Jake Hibbs saw his long range attempt from the free-kick just go over the bar, before some late drama just before the half-time whistle.

Denton saw his strike from just inside the box deflected out for a corner. The resulting corner found Denton again who attempted an overhead kick from inside the box. However, the top scorer was unfortunate to see his looping strike cleared off the line by Rowe.

Five minutes into the second half and Halifax found themselves behind. Danny Rowe had his strong shot parried by Drench and defender Danny Hone, who scored his first goal for the club in the last game, could only knock the ball into his own net.

The defender nearly turned scorer in the right net, heading straight at Fylde’s Thompson. Denton also had a chance to head home an equaliser, but his effort went over.

Hone eventually did redeem himself in the 72nd minute, tapping in Josh MacDonald’s cross from the right.

However, Bohan Dixon replied, firing low into the far corner after being given too much time on the ball.

MacDonald attempted an equaliser three minutes later. The winger burst into the box before hitting a strong shot at Thompson who was able to save before it was cleared.

Matty Kosylo had his late shot parried onto the post by Thompson, before substitute Jordan Burrow headed wide from a corner.

In the dying minutes, substitute Matt Blinkhorn received a red card for stamping on Danny Hone.

FC Halifax Town return to action on Monday when they face another tough test against Harrogate Town.
